Earlier in the year in June, a Jury containing seven people had passed the decision that Heard has intentionally and maliciously defamed Johnny Depp when she wrote the post in 2018 proclaiming her as a victim of domestic abuse. Johnny Depp was awarded $10 million in terms of compensation and $5 million in punitive damages. The judge here later reduced these damages to $350,000.

Heard also scored a small countersuit victory and earned $2 million as compensatory damages.
Heard team has since then filed an appeal to this verdict in July after the motion of a mistrial was denied. They said that the court has made errors that prevented a fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. Hence they have decided to appeal the verdict. Post this Amber hired a new legal counsel.

A representative of Amber said that different courts would warrant different representation, particularly as they have new evidence coming to light. We hope the issue is resolved amicably between both the actors as currently the dirty linen is being washed in public.
